“The footsteps of elephants” as my parents used to tease me. “You’d think she weighed tons” the way she sashays over the creaks in the hardwood flooring, through the beads hanging at the entrance of my part of the house. She’s “not the queen yet,” but she sure does act like it. I mean, it’s very fitting with a name like Royal. She was born with the tendency of a regal entrance and grande exit. She was also born with a love of being submerged in water and covered in ground down seashells; I just found out. This discovery making for a successful first beach trip. We spent a day and a half basking in the salty, cleansing breeze, and bronzing sun rays. Her peaceful independent play felt tribal, and freeing to the cells in my body that vibrate toward exploration and wonder. It was equally encouraging and exhausting adventuring on a new landscape with fresher eyes than mine tend to be.
