The Biggest Fuck Up
what happens when you get too comfortable
Recently, I came across a documentary episode on Vice about “The Lean Scene.” It mentioned originating in Houston, where instead of running to the liquor store before the cookout, a simple two-liter would suffice. They’d pour their syrup into stacked cups of Sprite, and perfect it with sunken sour gummies. This drank was sacred to many, a daily ritual for some. One of the biggest fuck ups, according to Texas Tea enthusiasts, is knocking over your drank. Being a child of internet memes, once I heard of this huge mistake, I could only think of one thing: Lil Wayne. He’s lounging on a couch, talking about foreign cars, getting just a little too comfortable—so comfortable that he pulls off the cardinal sin. He kicks over his drank.
This result of innocent lounging got me thinking: comfort can destroy. Discomfort stirs chaos, sure, but comfort’s predictability can be even more dangerous, especially when forgiveness is always expected.
Knowledge of the excessive comfort can be difficult. It may require a real friend, or you being a real with yourself. Nonetheless, a kick into reality forces an unsettling switch up. Do you have the courage to recover?
